Stop Snoring With These Simple Remedies
Snoring is an annoying and often embarrassing condition that you can completely stop, if you know how and have a little determination. You need not suffer from sleepless nights from being woken up by your own snoring. You no longer need to keep your significant other up all night from loud and constant snoring. Here are some simple solutions to stop snoring. Keep in mind that some of these are easier than others, but with some persistence, one of these solutions will work for you.
Lose 10 Pounds
Losing as little as 10 pounds can stop or diminish your snoring. You should not tolerate being too much overweight. Are you “OK” with your being overweight? You shouldn’t be. Start by losing 10 pounds. You will likely find that your snoring disappears. If not, lose another 10 pounds. Keep doing this until the snoring stops. You should feel really good about losing this little weight, which may even inspire you to continue losing some more. If not, at least you will have stopped snoring.
No Drink or Drugs before Bed
This approach may require you to change some habits, but the payoff will be well worth it. Snoring is usually caused by loose tissue in the throat that vibrates when you breath. For some people, this tissue not so flabby that snoring will result, but flabby enough that if it becomes too relaxed then snoring will result. Alcohol in the form of wine, beer or spirits just before going to bed can relax the tissue enough to cause snoring. Likewise, any kind of drug that causes muscles to become relaxed will also relax the tissue in your throat and cause snoring.
If you take sleeping medication, this may be causing or contributing to your snoring. Find the root cause of your sleeplessness instead of taking pills. Often, those not successful at dealing with anxiety have trouble sleeping at night. A good cognitive therapist can help you with that. Or, if you are indeed suffering from chronic anxiety then an anti-anxiety medication like Lexapro will deal with the anxiety and eliminate the need for sleeping pills.
Stop Smoking
Smoking causes inflammation of throat which leads to snoring. Try not smoking a few hours before going to bed. Or, quit smoking all together. It’s about time you did, anyway. If quitting smoking is not going to work for you right now, then perhaps throat sprays to decrease the inflammation will be enough to stop the snoring.
Pillows
Often, the angle of the neck can cause or increase snoring. There are special snoring pillows you can purchase that control the height of your head and keeping the airway in your throat wide open so the tissue doesn’t vibrate and cause snoring. Instead of spending money on these special pillows, try increasing the number of pillows you normally use.
Throat Exercises
This is one of the best methods for stopping snoring. The flabby tissue in the throat can be hardened through exercises. When it finally does stiffen up, your snoring will stop. There are several exercises that attach different parts of the throat and jaw and often completely stop the annoying condition after only a couple weeks of work.
I’m sure that one or maybe two of these methods in combination will help you completely stop your annoying snoring habit. A little hard work is all it will take to finally get a good night’s rest.
